Q & A With the Bug Man

1.) What is a good way to prevent ants?

The Urban Entomologist:
Really, the only way to prevent ants is to start a maintenance program. You can cut down on moisture and food items left out, but they will still be present without a barrier laid down regularly.

2.) How do you tell if you have termite damage?

The Urban Entomologist:
Normally there will be a mud line near the foundation going up the wall. Look for branch patterns behind the dry wall. The important thing to remember is that termites can root in anywhere, even roofs, where there is moisture.

3.) Is there a green way to protect our house?

The Urban Entomologist:
We use several products that are considered green and environmentally friendly. Namely, Alpine, Eco-Exempt, Eco-Pro, Mother Earth, and Invade Bio. These are considered Green Pest Solutions and help put down a barrier to prevent pest invasions and also lessen your impact on the Earth.

Ways To Save On Your Pest Control

1.) Pay In Advance: By paying in advance for the entire year you can save 10% off that total cost. We realize not everyone has the ability to do this each and every year, but this option has become standard on most contracts we sign for initial services and renewals.

2.) Yard Signs: Our yard sign referral can save you an initial $5 of your bill per quarter. It's easy, cost effective and hey black and white looks great on green grass!

3.) Refer a Friend or Family Member: When a new customer calls in one of the first questions we ask is "How did you hear about us?" If we find out it comes from a current customer we will be sure to note that on the account. Once that call becomes a client themselves we deduct $20 from your next bill. This is epically effective if you like our services and want your friends and family members to benefit from it as well.

4.) Social Media: If you join or Facebook, e-mail list, and blogs we will occasionally throw out offers and coupons exclusive to those members as our way of saying thank you.

A Night For Samantha

February 22nd was an ordinary day for most of us...
But, for one of our youngest Swat family members, it was a day dedicated to her! Samantha Embry, daughter of pest technician Ryan Embry and his wife Natalie enjoyed a benefit night at Hacienda on Evansville’s north side. Part of an ongoing campaign to help raise funds for an FM transmitter to aid Sam with her hearing, the Hacienda benefit was a tremendous success! According to Natalie the benefit raised over $700 with some donations coming in before simply from customers being alerted from our pest technicians. Samantha is well on her way to achieving her goal of $1200 and has also been reached out to by the Indiana State Police to help with the remainder. Samantha wrote everyone here at Swat Pest and our customers a thank you card for our efforts. She writes: "Thank you Swat Pest for all you've done. You've been a big help."

Brandon Runyon Named Technical Director

There are few things in life that make you feel as proud as seeing your child graduate from college...
Tim and Stacey Runyon experienced just that this past December as their son Brandon graduated from Purdue with a degree in Urban Entomology. Brandon then joined the staff of Swat Pest as our technical Director and staff Entomologist. Brandon has always had a fascination with the insect world and in fact keeps several species in his office at Swat. His most recent additions were the Pink Toe and Res Knee Tarantulas. He also makes several stops a month at different schools around the Tri-State introducing school aged children to this fascinatingly small world that is larger than ours in many ways. Also on his agenda, addresses to nature clubs, businesses, and professional groups on the importance of facility safety green solutions to pest preventions in both the home and the workplace. He also is on hand every day to answer customer questions on insect identification and the day to day operations of Swat Pest. Brandon is a welcome addition to our team and we are very proud of his continued accomplishments. Be sure to say hello to Brandon if you see him around the Tri-State.
